King Cake

It's that time of year again...

1) I'm homesick.
2) My house is decked in purple, green, and gold decorations.
3) I've got tunes by Stop, Inc., Professor Longhair, Bo Dollis and the Wild Magnolias, The Hawkettes, and the Olympia Brass Band on constant shuffle.
4) I'm making KING CAKES!!!

Here's my latest king cake. This one has a praline filling.

HAPPY MARDI GRAS SEASON!

Ever since junior high french class I wanted a king cake. Do you hide a little crown in it too? Yum!

I throw you double beads for a slice of that there. :-)

Man, I haven't had king cake in about 15 years! Waaaay too long.

Hi--saw you featured on Foodie Blogroll, saw the name of your blog and immediately thought to myself, "Self, I bet this person is from Louisiana." Me and myself were right, I guess, since I ran face first into your beautiful King Cake (and face first is definitely the best way to run into one). Glad I found you; I'll be back often:)

@Katherine - thanks!! I'm gonna make three more this weekend. Whew!

@m2 - that was pretty funny, your picking from the wrong cake. You made quite a graceful MG Queen!

@tallmisto - I hide a baby or a doubloon in it! :)

@MrOrph - thanks for stopping by! And double beads? WOW!

@Alisa - maybe I should start a virtual king cake site!

@Shelly - Thank you! I've added your blog to my blog list.

@Lori - thanks! I've bookmarked your site, too!

@Abby - I know, right? Did we not just get through the holidays?

@Julie - Thank ya, Julie! I'm enjoying your site.

@onlinepastrychef - Thanks! So glad you found me, because now I've found YOUR site. I love it!

Gee... so many people with so many interesting blogs stopped in today! I think I have to thank the Foodie Blogroll for that! I've added lots of blogs to visit in my sidebar!

Hey GumboGal!

Happy monday before Fat Tuesday...

Thanks for the office King Cake! It went pretty fast...good breakfast option there.

Apple streudel thing going on in there? I thought it was usually brown sugary kinda filling.

Still yummy either way...

thanks,
m2

@foodvox-thanks!!

@m2-Thanks! So glad you enjoyed the king cake! The cake was filled with a combo of sweet vanilla cream cheese filling and fresh apple filling. The basic king cake has the cinnamon/butter/brown sugar stuff inside. However, filled king cakes have been popular for as long as I can remember -- most common are cream cheese and praline fillings.
