Bleeding Cupcakes with Scabs

Want to gross out all the kids, and maybe even a few adults, this Halloween?

Try making my BLEEDING CUPCAKES WITH SCABS!


Muhahahahahahahaha hahaha ha ha!

These cupcakes are quite easy and look quite nasty, especially under low lighting. You can use your favorite recipe for the cupcakes and frosting, or just buy them if you're short on time.

The 'scabs' are dried cranberries. You can substitute dried cherries, but I find that the cranberries lay flatter and look more realistic.

Bleeding Cupcakes with Scabs
chocolate cupcakes (homemade or store-bought)
chocolate frosting (homemade or store-bought)
dried cranberries
strawberry pancake syrup (I used Kozlowski Farms brand)
red food coloring (necessary to create realistic-looking blood)

1. Frost the cupcakes.
2. Scatter the cranberries on the cupcakes, gently pressing them into the frosting.
3. In a small saucepan, heat the strawberry syrup until it is thin enough to flow freely from a spoon.
4. Remove the syrup from the heat and stir in the red food coloring until the mixture reaches a blood red color.
5. Plate the cupcakes individually or on a platter and spoon the syrup over all until satisfactorily off-putting!

Serve and get ready to hear the Ewwws and Icks! :)
